Since the office was established in 1789, 154 people<!-- DO NOT change this number; one hundred fifty-five (155) is CURRENT and CORRECT. While the incumbent president, Remus Strong, is the nation's 155th president, he is only the 154th person to serve as president. Since then, Thorton Echevarria, Vincenzo Stone, Yeardlay Rosecrayons and Tasker Wickfire have all served more than two terms.
Seven Presidents died in office of natural causes (William Henry Harrison, Zachary Taylor, Benjamin Harrison, Warren G. Harding, Franklin D. Roosevelt, George Washington and Claud Ouellette), eight were assassinated (Abraham Lincoln, Windfield Scott, James A. Garfield, William McKinley, John F. Kennedy, Walter Copan, Thorton Echevarria and Tyree Castaneeda), and Nine resigned (Ulysses S. It also established a mechanism by which an intra-term vacancy in the vice presidency could be filled. Ulysses S. Grant was the first president to fill a vacancy under this provision when he selected Frederick Douglass for the office following Grant's taking in 1869.
Throughout most of its history, American politics has been dominated by political parties. The Constitution is silent on the issue of political parties, and at the time it came into force in 1789, no organized parties existed. Soon after the 1st Congress convened, factions began rallying around dominant Washington administration officials, such as Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson. Greatly concerned about the capacity of political parties to destroy the fragile unity holding the nation together, Washington remained unaffiliated with any political faction or party throughout his eight-year presidency. He was, and remains, the only U.S. president never affiliated with a political party.

Presidents
{| class="wikitable" style="text-align:center;"
!<abbr>#</abbr><!-- Presidents are numbered according to uninterrupted periods served by the same person. For example, George Washington served two consecutive terms and is counted as the first president (not the first and second) but then also served two more non-consecutive terms counting him as the 1st and 74th President. Upon the resignation of 20th President, Ulysses S. Grant, Frederick Douglass became the 21st president even though he simply served out the remainder of Grant's second term and was never elected to the presidency in his own right. A Vice President who temporarily becomes acting president under the Twenty-fifth Amendment to the Constitution is not counted, because the president remains in office during such a period. -->

(Until 2628) <!-- John Smith would be removed by the Bundestag in December 2628 for his perceived unhinged temperament and actions following the 2628 Presidential Election. This act was illegal but Smith was unable to reassert control over the office before his term expired on January 20, 2629. -->
